Chlordécone
The 2025-2026 academic year Ecologies Entrelacées theme will be chlordécone, with the guiding question: how do art and digital projects play a role in drawing awareness about chlordécone pollution? Chlordécone, a toxic pesticide authorized for use on banana plants in Martinique and Guadeloupe between 1972 and 1993, has irreversibly poisoned the islands and caused profound health issues for the people of Martinique and Guadeloupe. The case of chlordécone has implications for thinking about the role of art and literature in raising awareness on toxicity and other broader environmental justice issues.
